Rock the Block Party

This title is courtesy of Mr. Jonathan Tan, who has a habit of mixing words sometimes. For example, he calls the movie Blood Diamond, Black Diamond... and have you been to Bed and Bath (that's short for Bed, Bath, and Beyond) or the Coral Garden? (that's Golden Corral you guys). So recently we just had the Rock the Park Concert and the Biggest Block Party Ever right? Hence, the "Rock the Block" title. =)



It was a little past 5pm and the people at the Block Party were starting to enjoy their beverages with their companies. This was the scenario when we first arrived at the corner of Washington Street.







First people we ran into?.......... The Justice League in their block costumes and the Red Bull Addicts with their improvised Red Bull necklaces.

Then right after, we all ran into Team B.A.S.H. and decided to take some more pictures. It was kind of funny 'coz the nice lady who took the pictures kept on pressing on the "On/Off" button instead of the "Click" button. So the camera kept on shutting off and then back on.

We kept on posing but the ones that were actually taken were the after-pose shots (hehe).

But hey! Practice makes perfect, and after a series of shots, we finally got a good one in the end. I'll give it to her that she intentionally put us all on the side of the picture. =)

Lucky day for us and Iynigo 'coz we get to pose a shot with Mayor Fred Armstrong (left). Around the corner we also got to chat a little with the Newshounds (right).

Aside from partying that day, we were also volunteers and were assigned to man the raffle ticket table with Linda Purtlebaugh. You can see our team captain dozing off for a little while. Well, I guess he figured he will be doing most of the work later on. You will see what I mean in a moment.

It was nice enough of Linda to allow us to excuse ourselves during Amazing Race awarding of Leg 1. Our captain's hard work has paid off and he got a laptop as a prize, courtesy of the CYP AR Committee. Congratulations to all the winners!

Now we have to get back to work. By this time our captain has finally awaken. He is supercharged and ready to get down to serious business. He started by wooeing partygoers to buy raffle tickets from our table.

Everything that goes into the raffle box would need to pass his investigative eyes and shielding hands. He also verifies each and every dollar that comes in. Look at the piercing look he is giving to one of our roaming ticket sellers.

And, the job won't be complete if he wouldn't let the people know what their winnings would be.
That would be half of the amount listed on the board.

Our volunteer task is now over and we get to enjoy the rest of the evening. Walking around, we can't help but admire this artistic paintwork by David Newman-Stump and Nathan Perry of the Skeleton Crew Tattoo. There we are trying to make a point.... Give me a "T"!

Nathan laughed so hard when he saw us and our shirts full of paint.


Another day is over and for the rest of us, we just have to wait for another year for this!
