China is the host country for this year's Ethnic Expo. Their float was inspired by one of the Seven Wonders of the World ---- The Great Wall of China.

When we speak of China, some things are always expected to be unique in their culture and traditions.......

....the QiPao dresses (can you spot Cim in there?)

.... last but not the least, acrobatics has always been a popular Chinese entertainment. I hope no one missed this incredible performance by the Peking Acrobats. The stunts were just unbelievable!

Walk For a Cause

Early Saturday morning, and Columbus downtown was filled with motivated racers ready to hit it on the starting line for the Mayor's walk. Even Mr. Armstrong had his #502 clearly posted on his chest, showing his total support. (I wonder if this is why they called it "Mayor's" Walk? hehe)

What's interesting to note too is that parents also brought their kids in their strollers and partipated. One couple even had a stereo playing at the back of the stroller while doing the walk. Great strategy I must say! That's a great tip for other runners next year.

We went to our volunteer post. The work officially started for us as we saw the lead bike and the first runner......

All traffic volunteers are like eyes and ears, plus fuel (if that's the right term for it in the context of motivation and moral support) for the exhausted participants. So that's what we did......

.......down to the very last runner with the trail bike.

Then off we go to Mill Race for a post-race celebration. Visitor's Welcome and Rayann (who also raced) joined the fun.

I wonder how Mayor Armstrong did in HIS walk? hehe. Nonethess, a big CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who participated. Cheers (as the Local Drafts would say) for a good and healthy living!

Iron Pour 101

After attending the meeting for the Mayor's Walk, the Damsels and Tri-TANs decided to check out the Driftwood Valley Music Festival together.

Had a good time chatting with them while listening to a live band.....

We also watched intently how different art forms can be created using iron to pour into molds.

We never really asked anyone how this procedure goes nor the different equipment used but let's see if our interpretation of it makes any sense at all.

So ladies and gentlemen, presenting, the Iron Pour......

Prepare the moulds first.

(of course, or else our products would look all the same.. duh!) Feel free to let your imagination roll.

Pour the iron into the thingy.

Turn the furnace on for the melting of the iron.

... and when that's ready......

.....the hot molten metal can be poured into your desired mold.

Pretty simple explanation from a spectator's point of view. That wasn't too bad, if I'd say so myself. I just hope I did not misinform anyone of anything. =P So to continue, these are only a few of the examples of what the final product may look like. TA-DA!!!

You'd be surprised on how expensive these artworks are....but nah.... don't fret 'coz with my lecture at Iron Pour 101, you can simply whip up babies like these at your backyard!....... uh right??

Once Upon a Time

Let me tell you about a story of an unforgettable experience we had just this past week....

The Bartholomew County Historical Society was scheduled to hold a Columbus Homes Tour (Oct. 11 & 12, 2008) which would feature eight historic homes here in Columbus, Indiana. Apart from the 8 homes, the tour would also include the Visitor's Center, the Historical Society, and the Crump.

Devoted volunteers that we always have been in many events here in our city, we have arranged early on in the race our part to help in this most awaited tour. As the event neared, we got a call confirming our participation, but to where we will be stationed, was yet to be decided upon. For some reason, we never got a call back. Our attempts to reach them back, for some reason, has also never been successful. I guess there was really a reason for everything....

The sun was already starting to set when Cim finished her practice for the coming Ethnic Expo. We were hurrying home because Jonathan has to go to work in an hour. Passing by Washington Street (like we always do), we saw one of the houses that is going to be part of the historic homes tour, the same house that we had been admiring all this time ever since we arrived here in Columbus. We thought, "What the heck. Let's go take a shot."

We asked permission from the "caretaker" out on the shed at the back of the house before positioning our camera for a quick shot of the home's facade. He came out front and offered to take the picture for us instead.

Just before we head back to the car, we introduced ourselves and gave our thanks. He introduced himself as Mike Darlage, son of the famous Robert Darlage, 4th owner of this mansion behind us (since 1973). Oh yeah, were we surprised! With the camera still on his hands, he asked us to back up for another shot.

Again, he motioned us to take a step back further. With this shot, we already knew that he was warmly welcoming us to his home.

The inside was just as amazing as it was outside. There was a special nostalgic feeling all around.

Totalling to 4 years (1910-1914) in the making, the mansion is a 3-storey with a basement. With so many rooms, I totally lost count halfway.

One of the rooms has a window-like passageway that leads to the second floor balcony.

Still on the second floor, he led us to another balcony on the side of the building. There, he showed to us one of the posts on the ledge that was cemented upside down intentionally. "In American tradition and beliefs, it represents luck and prosperity," Mike explained. Can you see it?

Like a lot of other old homes, many of the furnitures and fixtures in this home has been modernized. However, I was glad that there were still a number of antiques left and in pristine condition....

This piece was bought by Robert Darlage from one of the churches in the Philippines, which seems to us, dates back to the Spanish regime. Unfortunately on the way back to the US, her arms were cut off in airport immigration for security purposes.

Though may need a little gentle polish, this antique silver chandelier still looks absolutely elegant.

The set of sinks has always been kept in the basement. You can see an old washboard in there too.

"The throne" as Mike's family has always called it, has been in there ever since they acquired the home in 1973.

If not for Jonathan's work, we would have stayed much longer. The mansion embodies so much history that cannot be contained in just an hour or a few hours.

Needless to say, we have Mike Darlage to thank for this fascinating experience. This will definitely be one of the things we will look back at many many years from now and remember how lucky we were that night, once upon a time.....

For all of those who were wondering about Mr. Robert Darlage, he is currently enjoying his retirement touring the rest of the world.

Hope Heritage Days

The 41st Annual Hope Heritage Days appears to be a big hit among locals and visitors (like us!) alike. There's no denying just looking at that long line of traffic.

Hey Cim, you look kinda lost. Well, I don't blame you, the countless food stands is enough to make anyone lose concentration. With so many things going on, we didn't know where to start. For all we know, the fun was just about to get even better!

Cim got all ballistic as she saw Elvis once again. Geez, Elvis does go around a lot does he? .... Before, he was at the Memphis BBQ, and now, here at Hope Heritage Days.

The event was very family-oriented. The kids were especially enjoying the party in the playground as much as the adults were feasting over the food while listening to the band. The spirit of the people from Hope radiates immensely that it got to us. We were just so into the moment that we let ourselves go and be carefree... and what could be more carefree-like than jumping in midair?!!.... or least that was what we were trying to do. =)

Woohoo! We finally got our feet off the ground. Not that perfect, but it will do. The people behind us had enough entertainment already!!!

We join the rest of the Hope community in honoring Don Dillman, who has led the festival for more than 30 years. He died April 2008 and this year's Hope Heritage is a tribute in celebration of his lifetime commitment to the growth and future of this city.

TEAM B.A.S.H. let us all in this great idea of theirs on the Discover Columbus challenge. They sent out an email to all the racers inviting everyone for a group photo-op at the Discover Columbus sign. Eventhough we already had this challenge accomplished, we cannot let this opportunity pass. We are already in the 4th Leg and there can never be a more perfect moment to show what Amazing Racers can do together as a team for the first time.

With teamwork, there is always something amazing that can come out. Special mention to Jess (Jessica's hubby) who took these wonderful pics! To the Damsels and TEAM B.A.S.H., let's give ourselves a pat on the shoulder for a job well done!!

BE a Difference...BE a Big (7th Anytime Challenge)

For several years, the Foundation for Youth has been bringing caring mentors in the lives of children through their program in Big Brothers, Big Sisters (BBBS). We were honored to be part of this and together with the JLs, we offered our service in spreading out the word and helping Laura Moses find more potential "Bigs". Both teams met up with her one morning at Starbucks and discussed that a mass email be sent out to fellow Amazing Racers, hoping that from there, that chain would continue to pass on from person to person.

Believing that our knowledge of program is very limited, the Tri-TANs decided to pass by Foundation for Youth a few weeks later to ask more questions and dig deeper. We thought that we became a representation for BBBS and CYP as well once that email was sent out and having said that, we wanted to be able to explain to people interested what it is really all about.

We sat with Laura for almost 2 hours while she explained and gave examples of stories of the Bigs and their Littles. There is really a surplus of Littles right now, while a shortage of the Bigs. At the moment, there are still more than a hundred Littles "on the deck" (what they referred to children still unmatched). This is why Laura has been very adamantly working on ways to recruit more Bigs. The planning for a recruitment meeting is currently underway, and the Damsels have volunteered to be one of the main organizers for the event. The Tri-TANs will definitely be helping out as well. Jonathan has started getting hold of the hospital and hopefully pretty soon, a mass email can also be sent out in their intranet system.

Below is a sample of the invitation. We hope that everyone would take time out to see what this is all about and who knows, maybe for all you know, you can be that Big that make all the difference in a child's life.

The Freedom Field Park is very special and unique for it was designed so that all children, able-bodied and with special needs alike, can altogether enjoy and play independently. Adults who are physically challenged can also play side by side with their kids or grandkids. There are independent play panels available and ramps are also accesible to get up in the playground (Picture below is courtesy of Freedom Field website)

The cookie table was filled with different assortment of goodies, all donated by volunteers. Having been stationed there, we clearly found out how popular these delicious treats are with old and young folks alike. But even so, Jonathan had to roam around with Peggy in the crowd to be able to sell some more because there was just too much quantity in the table.

Congratulations to Marcia Bundura (volunteer coordinator) and the other volunteers for a very successful turn-out of the Hospice concert.

The Tri-TANs wanted to try out this great "Elvis" place we heard about which served the most tasty BBQs. So we went to Memphis BBQ to have a taste of some, plus, to see some pictures of Elvis too... but we got more than that. Elvis was actually in the house!

We saw him passing by the corner of Beale Street and Elvis Presley Blvd and posing with some fans.

He even got a special guest with him, Marilyn. Come to think of it, what if they did hook up together? I know, it would probably result to this.....

Standing tall after the rain

The past weeks had been really hard for a lot of people we know since the flood happened here in Columbus. A friend of ours had her basement stricken by the flood. The water and mud filled their basement up to the ceiling and the experience was definitely devastating to each and every member of Cindy Calkins family. A lot of appliances (including bed, sofas, washer, dryer) and memorabilias were damaged. Upon knowing the news, we immediately called Cindy up and asked if she needed any assistance. The next day, Jonathan went to their house and together with Cindy's husband Jim and some other volunteers from the church, the work was started. They painstakingly removed all the carpet and wall linings, cut the sofa up so that it can be easily disposed, removed mud and debris from the floor, and carried cabinets to be thrown out. At the end of the day, some things were accomplished but still, so much work was still left to be done.

So much has happened in just a matter of weeks. This devastating event was unprecedented and totally unexpected. The great thing is, after almost a month, we look back and the progress was tremendous. A lot of things has been back and up to their almost usual state. How much the city and the people affected has recovered in just a very short period of time, is just simply overwhelming and inspiring.

Who else would miss that long braided hair? The Damsels enjoyed this movie experience as much as we did... and both agreed this is something we are definitely going to look forward to next year.

A Day in Scot-Land

A day in the Scottish Festival made us find out what makes this particular culture unique....

Their outfits?.... definitely! We had the chance to even try it ourselves. This one is with Robert Reid, owner of the Celtic Corner.

The Scottish Bagpiping is a solid trademark. We all know that.

The unique items they sell in their stalls. By the way, that is where we ran into the IBCs, the shopping department (almost always a common denominator!)

The games they play in festivities. This one is called "Haggis Toss", where Jonathan had a first hand experience.

Their sports. This is the first time we witnessed a Rugby tournament.

And last but not the least, their music and entertainment. Enjoy this Scottish version of "Amazing Grace" by the Hooligans.

Welcome to ExploraHouse! A fun place for kids (and adults like us!) to play. The Toilet seems to be the highlight of this funhouse. Perfect! This is one of our favorite places in the house too (haha)... there is just too many activities that gets done in here!

For Iynigo, it's the potty training....

Cim just gets all relaxed and rejuvenated while enjoying a newspaper or magazine....

As for Jonathan.... hey what's that....a plate of sushi??!!

This is real... the little girl really thought Jonathan was eating a real plate of food and she was asking him where he got them.
After explaining that all the sushis and rolls are just fakes, she got all excited and decided she wanted to play. She pretended to be a waitress and serve food to her very sophisticated customer. It was really funny watching both of them do that.

As a family, let's just say we enjoy getting "Flushed!" In Tri-TANs terms, it means getting all worries and problems away.. enjoying life to the fullest!

EAST VERSUS NORTH.... Not being from here, we had the advantage of starting on a clean slate and choosing the team we wanted to cheer for for the first time. Ooooohhh... this is gonna be exciting!

What it ended up with?.... A SPLIT-UP! Cim was prepared to give it all out for the NORTH team, but Jonathan had his bet for the EAST. Iynigo? Indecisive.

Well, we all came to enjoy the game. So in the end, we managed to show our enthusiasm and support for both colors. We can't help but to get carried away with the spirits of the fans of both Orange and Blue.

Jonathan's Worst Nightmare

Jonathan woke up telling about a bad dream that he just had....

The dream started with a blurry vision of people scattered at what seemed like the sidewalk right by at Irwin Bank....

Then he saw us, team ROTT! Melissa and Mandy were with us looking great and radiant as usual, but he was not too convinced about OUR fashion statement...

The scene jumped into Tamera's studio at One Body One Soul. Still looking harassed and exhausted, a sip of Sangria and listening to a little poetry were just what we needed.

The picture went back to the streets of Washington, where he saw a lot of weird things happening --- dogs all fussed up, kids hair uncombed, some girl's hair burning up.... people all around had really bad hair! There was even a Colts fanatic shouting like a crazy man. What's going on???!!!

Change of scene again.....now we were in a grocery buying milk. In his dream, he just thought he must be needing that milk pretty badly to be going shopping in his PJs. Talk about the perfect time to do it. But yeah, a dream's a dream coz he would be totally out of his mind if he was to do this for real.

The City Council had a lot to discuss that day so the meeting room was jampacked. In fact, the room was so full that there were also several people standing outside, including us. Some topics include a book to be published entitled "Pay it Forward" and then there were also issues on the bike trail.

Fourth Anytime Challenge

It was a nice Monday afternoon when the Tri-TANs and the Justice League met up. We have been planning to go to Irwin Gardens, but it just so happens that when we got there, the garden was..... CLOSED???!!! With 4 brains (and a half?), it did not even cross anybody's mind that the garden needed its day off too. =)

We needed to get in. We have no other choice. So, we took it upon ourselves to do what we gotta do, and the rest is history..... Nah! Who are we kidding?! We just had to enjoy the view from outside =( ...... and then we all set off to Mill Race for a little picnic chat.

So time for a little Justice League. We learned that....

Here's TAKE TWO!

So here we are back to the Irwin Gardens.... this time we got in (nyahahaha) and with a new set of team with us.... the RB Addicts!! We got to take a picture with the elephant again just like we did last year. This fella is so famous we should probably name him already.

We really enjoyed the afternoon with the Addicts (uh...that didn't came out right), so much that we didn't notice it was almost 5pm already (we met around 12 noon). Barbi was also starting to feel chilly because it was quite cold and windy especially with us staying under the shade. We also felt bad for Page (did I spell it right?) who's staying at home at the Chandler's residence alone and hungry.

I have visited the blogsite of the RB Addicts, and their despcriptions were right on the mark. But I must say, we have a few inputs ourselves of what WE, in turn, found out about YOU guys. Brace yourselves...

First Pilates Experience

We were greeted warmly by Ms. Tamera Pauli, founder of One Body One Soul, as we arrived in her studio early Saturday morning. To start off, she gave us each a glass of Mimosa to give that relaxed and "in the moooooood" feeling.

This was the whole Pilates class, led by Lorraine (frontmost in white), doing the "Mermaid Pose."

Iynigo found himself a new set of toys to play with!

Before leaving, we saw familiar faces from Yoga class, composed of Newshounds, RB Addicts, and Tails of Joey and Daisy. They looked so refreshed and energized and more than ready to hit the mat! Hmm.. I'd better make me one of those Mimosas at home.

Tre Bicchieri was the downtown place chosen by the two teams to meet. Being able to dine in this place for the first time, we were quite excited. You can't hide that fact from our captain who was eager to find out what's on the menu.

With the man who runs Tre Bicchieri, Ike Declue, who also happens to be Kelsey's boyfriend.

Pre-registration has always been an integral part of the Triathlon to avoid overcrowding on the day of the event. We shared this task with several other volunteers as well as with fellow amazing racers, the Mother and Daughter Green Team and Rayann of the Justice League.

August 9, 6:15 AM --> TRIATHLON DAY

It was a cold 65 degrees outside that very morning. We were still stationed at the pre-registration area checking IDs with Rhonda. Registration is soon to be closed and the race is about to start. Good thing the temperature has warmed up a bit, but it is really quite cold still. Brrrrr....

8:30 AM --> First Leg : SWIMMING

Just when we were about to go to the second part of the relay, we ran ito Mary Lou Slattery (volunteer coordinator for the Triathlon). She said that she would suddenly be needing help at traffic. One volunteer did not show up and they needed additional people in a certain area.

9:15 AM --> TRAFFIC CONTROL

When we arrived, Officer Jason and Theresa has already started directing traffic at a 4-way STOP sign. Jonathan immediately jumped in to help and Cim was in charge of the radio. Hey, I think we just saw the last biker breezed past us. Good!Let's hurry back to Marina to get into our bikes. We need to catch up!

One Balloon Mission

Aaaahhh... the momentous event of inflating that balloon, especially for Iynigo. I think this challenge was made especially for him. Thank you to Lorraine Low and Lisa Shafran of the Heritage Fund.

Walking past the hall, we noticed pictures hanging on the wall. Lorraine told us that each of these women donated at least a million dollars to the Heritage Fund before they passed away. From top to bottom: Aileen Noblitt Marshall Graham, Delora L. Lauther, Mildred Reeves.

This is exactly it! The location of Columbus' first lit croquet court!

Balloon mission?...... Accomplished!!!

Rock the Block Party

This title is courtesy of Mr. Jonathan Tan, who has a habit of mixing words sometimes. For example, he calls the movie Blood Diamond, Black Diamond... and have you been to Bed and Bath (that's short for Bed, Bath, and Beyond) or the Coral Garden? (that's Golden Corral you guys). So recently we just had the Rock the Park Concert and the Biggest Block Party Ever right? Hence, the "Rock the Block" title. =)

It was a little past 5pm and the people at the Block Party were starting to enjoy their beverages with their companies. This was the scenario when we first arrived at the corner of Washington Street.

First people we ran into?.......... The Justice League in their block costumes and the Red Bull Addicts with their improvised Red Bull necklaces.

Then right after, we all ran into Team B.A.S.H. and decided to take some more pictures. It was kind of funny 'coz the nice lady who took the pictures kept on pressing on the "On/Off" button instead of the "Click" button. So the camera kept on shutting off and then back on.

We kept on posing but the ones that were actually taken were the after-pose shots (hehe).

But hey! Practice makes perfect, and after a series of shots, we finally got a good one in the end. I'll give it to her that she intentionally put us all on the side of the picture. =)

Lucky day for us and Iynigo 'coz we get to pose a shot with Mayor Fred Armstrong (left). Around the corner we also got to chat a little with the Newshounds (right).

Aside from partying that day, we were also volunteers and were assigned to man the raffle ticket table with Linda Purtlebaugh. You can see our team captain dozing off for a little while. Well, I guess he figured he will be doing most of the work later on. You will see what I mean in a moment.

It was nice enough of Linda to allow us to excuse ourselves during Amazing Race awarding of Leg 1. Our captain's hard work has paid off and he got a laptop as a prize, courtesy of the CYP AR Committee. Congratulations to all the winners!

Now we have to get back to work. By this time our captain has finally awaken. He is supercharged and ready to get down to serious business. He started by wooeing partygoers to buy raffle tickets from our table.

Everything that goes into the raffle box would need to pass his investigative eyes and shielding hands. He also verifies each and every dollar that comes in. Look at the piercing look he is giving to one of our roaming ticket sellers.

And, the job won't be complete if he wouldn't let the people know what their winnings would be.
That would be half of the amount listed on the board.

Our volunteer task is now over and we get to enjoy the rest of the evening. Walking around, we can't help but admire this artistic paintwork by David Newman-Stump and Nathan Perry of the Skeleton Crew Tattoo. There we are trying to make a point.... Give me a "T"!

Nathan laughed so hard when he saw us and our shirts full of paint.

Another day is over and for the rest of us, we just have to wait for another year for this!

Amazing's Skaters

It was a fun day at the rink. We got to meet teams Cummins + 1 Cruisin' Columbus and the rest of the Red Bull Addicts, Barbi and Carl, for the first time. As for the others like C.E.M.M. Racers and Team B.A.S.H., it was also a nice time to get to hang out with them again after the last challenge. =)

Dirty Fun!

Friday is Garbage Pick-up Day at our apartment. The truck driver usually got three stations in the complex wherein he needs to position the bins so the truck could fork it up.

Wow. This thing's pretty heavy....

On the other hand, lawn care is during Mondays. These guys were nice enough to let us help them out (or was it the other way around? hehe just kidding). Cim tried to trim the grass while Jonathan mowed the lawn. This is great practice once we get our own place next time (C'mon.. a guy can dream can't he?)

So if you need any maintenance on your lawn, just call COWAN LAWN CARE (shhhh! we promised to give this advertisement). Thanks to Jeremy, Nathan, Larry and Greg for this experience. Keep up the good work!!

Get ready to Rock the Park!

Jeff Kuehl is the coordinator for this fundraising concert. We have worked with him last year at the Biggest Block Party and he is just one heck of a really nice guy.

RACIN' to get a great view in this SIZZLING hot day at Rock the Park Concert.

Guarding the entrance with our co-volunteer Mary Gatsby and making sure everybody PAYS! Near our station, there is a "slit" that can be an entryway into the concert area. One guy sneaked through it, carrying his cooler and portable chair. Jonathan, Mary and Michelle (C.E.M.M.) had to chase after him and when they tried calling him, he wouldn't even look back. After that, he came back where he came in, walking past us as if nothing happened. Whew... with people like that, this can be a tough job I tell ya.

First Anytime Challenge

The sculpture Eos, also known as the goddess of the dawn, was created by Dessa Kirk. This amazing art was part of the sculpture rotation here in Columbus for 2007. In an attempt to save Eos and keep her to stay with us, many came together to raise funds. Two of them were 2007 CYP Amazing Race participants who called themselves "The Winners", composed of Ryan Lauer and Blair Dugid. Their campaign to "Save Eos!" were able to raise over $24,000 of the $35,000 goal. A-mazing!!!

This "Large Arch" by Henry Moore has always been our personal favorite ever since we arrived here in Columbus a year ago. At a certain angle, we have always imagined it to be a large hand (but of course it has no connection with that concept whatsoever). As crazy as it may sound, we always felt it was strategically located (that is, outside the library), as a metaphor that knowledge and power is within our reach or something haha. Yeah... our imagination can be pretty wild sometimes =) That's us together with team Justice League.

Enough with that. Let's get down to business!

It was nice of Betsy to allow us to alternate shifts so that someone could take care of the baby. Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet her in person since she didn't came in to work that afternoon. Anyway, we were given the dinner shift of 6-9 PM. Here is how our day went......

Now turning the table around, it's time for Cim to sit back and relax with Iynigo. That was in the first picture when she was still enjoying taking pics to pass the time. The second pic depicts a totally different story (taken an hour and a half after).

At the end of the day, the accomplished team took one last shot to document this experience. Knowing that 100% of the Kiwanis' profits would go to the flood victims, the proud Tri-TANs can't help but smile despite of a long day's work.

Exploring Ron Arnold...

Ron Arnold is currently the President of the Columbus Kiwanis Club. We decided to add this segment in the blog when we coincidentally ran into him 3 days after the volunteering task at Kiwanis during the 4H fair. It was during the World Series volunteer picnic meeting at the Donner Park Shelter House and he was the one who even first saw and approached us. With all the volunteers who helped during the fair, we were quite surprised that he remembered us at all. (also since his work was in the kitchen and ours was mostly outside)

We began chatting and found quite a few things about him. Aside from the Kiwanis Club, he is also very active in other charity related institutions. He was also a cartoonist and once upon a time had Jim Davis (remember Garfield?) as his employee (how cool is that?!!). He showed us the plaque posted at the wall of the Shelter House, which narrated shortly his part in the revival of the Donner Park Variety show (created 1926). After the seminar, what have we learned?

The truth is, no matter what role we perform in our lives, no matter how big or small, we are all leaders in our own right. We tried to think of ways of how we can exemplify what we learned from John in our personal life. We realized that we don't have to look very far, 'coz it's actually in everything that we do.

Like in volunteering for example, a task which SEEMS to be simple, but yet if we don't take charge and organize ourselves, what you do can end up in a big mess and affect the rest of the event somehow.

Below, you can see us volunteering for the Softball Pitch World Series (one was from this year and the other one from last year). We were supposed to make sure that only coaches and players get to take sodas from the ice bin. We also had to make sure that supply of beverages don't run out. Believe you me, it can be pretty crazy especially when people come all at once.

I bet same thing goes with parenthood. Some days you need to stretch your patience a bit (the lover = connects, feels, and appreciates) and find ways to make things better (the Warrior = takes action).

It entails bringing out the best in him, being sensitive to what he really wants and enjoys while knowing your own limitations (The Magician = contains, assesses, and recommends).
We will do everything in our power to teach and raise him according to what we know is right, and just hope and pray that one day he will become a person with good judgement and morals. Then we can proudly say, "Dang! We did a pretty good job." (The Sovereign = initiates, guides, and decides)

Reminiscing last year's July 4th...... we watched the fireworks from the CEDC park. It was wonderful. Too bad we were not able to do that this year and won't be able to do it together again for quite a while since Jonathan's night work schedule would be falling on the exact same date for the next 7 years (Bummer!)

We have been here in the States for more than 2 years now and this is the first time that we have had the chance to hang out and listen to a band play again. Yeah yeah... we have been to other concerts like the Hospice concert and the Block Party of last year, but we were volunteers during those times so we weren't really able to "chill out" as much. At the Hege farm, we were also surprised to know most of the songs that the band played (usually people enjoy it more that way don't you think?). Since the kick off, this was the first time everybody had to meet again. We got to know a few teams like B.A.S.H.(with their little Andrew) and Red Bull Addict Dave (hehe). Overall, we had fun partying and networking, but our team captain had too much to drink (as you can witness from the video) so we had no choice but to leave early. By the way, sorry if the video made you a little dizzy, the cameraman tried his best to stay sober and keep his hands still.... but hey, it was a party, so I guess we can't blame him if he can't help it eh? =)

ROTT TEAM AT THE KICK OFF

Wow! Another year has passed and we are, once again, at a kick-off of the CYP Amazing Race challenge. It's like deja vu all over again!!! Just like last year, a lot of teams were pretty amazing this year, lots of fun and truly creative. Too bad, none of them were familiar faces from before, uh, except of course for you Valerie and Melissa... we would recognize you guys from miles away, even with your backs to us hehe (hey, can we get points for that???) But wait, there's Jessica from last year's race too! She is part of the Damsels in Success this time around (we just found this out while we were chatting at the kick-off this year). There were a loooooot of people who joined last year, so most of them we won't be able to recognize AT ALL... EVER!! (and I'm sure vice-versa too haha... Uh, Hi again Jessica!) So good luck to all the teams at play. Our team captain is looking forward to meet all of you (and that's an order!) Let the race begin!!!
